​2017 was an exceptionally difficult year for Phil Randazzo. He lost his wife of 34 years, his father, four very close friends, and his dog, all within a year. “I felt the weight of those losses take a toll on me and recognized the tremendous amount of stress I was under. “I couldn’t help thinking there must be more to life than a box of ashes when we die. I kept asking myself am I a human having a spiritual experience or am I a spiritual being having a human experience."

My friend Lori Arnot, suggested I try a meditation class to ease my stress.” Phil took his first meditation class at River Yoga in Clayton with instructor Kristen Taylor. “She opened my eyes to the possibilities meditation offers. I immediately felt the stress relieving benefits and began practicing meditation at home.” The results were amazing. Through practicing meditation, Phil lost 70 pounds, lowered his blood pressure, lowered his cholesterol to normal levels, and was no longer pre-diabetic. 

​To learn more about meditation, Phil took an online course and then soon found himself in San Diego for a week-long meditation program. Following his trip to San Diego, Phil took a yearlong sabbatical to study meditation and enrolled in the Teacher Training Program through The Chopra Center.
